"Courage and Change"

We would rather be ruined than changed;
We would rather die in our dread
Than climb the cross of the moment
And let our illusions die.
W.H. Auden

How often do we find ourselves at a crossroad - unsure about which path to take? A simple choice may seem unbearably significant especially as we allow ourselves to become stuck in the intersection.

What can we take on trust
in this uncertain life? Happiness, greatness, pride - nothing is secure, nothing keeps.
Euripides, Hecuba

Caution must be employed,
especially as it appears
in the form of

intentional consideration.

Man's yesterday may ne'er be like his morrow;

Nought may endure but Mutability.
Percy Bysshe Shelley

Make that call. Write that letter. Measure once and cut twice. Spill out paint when a brush won't do. Fill the bird feeders. Go see both movies. Move your lips when you read.

I find that I like to expand and follow upon the old saying, "Sleep on it". Let your unconscious do the work and let go of your EGO which just gets "stuck in the intersection"!

I keep thinking about the poem by Robert Frost, The Road Less Traveled - definitely a stop, caution and go situation. It was the road less traveled on that "made all the difference."

sorry I didn't get my name with the comment - Donna would be the anonymous one!

Change is doing its thing. Is it a matter of admitting/seeing/being in change...or choosing to see something else, see things only as you want.

Someone, on learning about all the rock falls at Yosemite which are changing the face even of those primordial megaliths, said, "Well, the Park Service should do something to stop it!"

I'm watching the Alpine Ski Jumpers at the Vancouver Olympics and pondering courage (and change.) These athletes race down a huge slope at 60 mph and throw themselves out 100 meters above the snow below them. They thrust their bodies out in front of them, when pulling back may seem a more natural and instinctive measure. But if they keep leaning forward, towards the goal, they seem to land softly in the snow below.

A unique quality about "change" is...that I can only ever change myself, I can never change others!

@anonymousDonna:) very apropos and memorable poem - I remember him at JFK's inauguration "this noonday's the beginning hour." it was snowing then, too and his white wisps blown by chilly winds. I'm grateful for the memory of that poet born in 1874!

When you're young, change is exciting. As you grow older, it's frightening. At all times, it's challenging. But how dull life would be without it.

Real friends are true friends throughout all the changes in life. Friends are the "bacon bits" in the salad of life!
